New Collaboration with Tastes of Aloha-Gift Boxes

The pandemic has hit Hawaii Island hard, as we have lost 99% of our tourism in the past five months. I wanted to do something to support our island businesses. I have been spotlighting some of our surviving restaurants on my 365 Things to Do in Kona Facebook page, on the Kona Newbies group and on my 365KonaHawaii Instagram page.

As the island looks to find avenues of income beyond tourism, I jumped in to get a County grant to make the focus of the 2021 Best of Kona Festival to agriculture and spotlighting island specialty food producers. We will be holding demonstrations and classes for the public, farmers, and marketers. The event is slated for April 10, 2021 at the Kona Inn Shopping Center and we hope the world looks a lot better by then!

To get Kona specialty food producers into the spotlight sooner than next year, we have teamed up with Tastes of Aloha, a local Kailua Kona speciality food distribution company. Tastes of Aloha not only helps find, promote and distribute amazing items, but most importantly, they create new markets for our island producers that they most likely would not be able to do themselves. Last month we created a “365 Kona Gift Box” that was so well received we sold out!

This is where you come in. If you would like to support the island AND be sustainable, consider purchasing a Best of Kona gift box and receive a Best of Kona premium water bottle and local made goodies!

Locally produced products in Kona, Hawai’i:

DaVine Food’s Hoaloha Lilikoi Cocktail Mix – is handcrafted in Kona and sourced on the beautiful Big Island of Hawaii and is made with these all natural ingredients: Water, Passion Fruit Puree, Pure Cane Sugar, Lime Juice. Use to create cocktails, salad dressings and marinades!

Primavera Farms 75% Kona Cacao Dark Chocolate Bar – an award winning Kona Cacao Bar that is handcrafted in Kealakekua, Hawai’i from seedling to bar with simple and all natural ingredients: Kona Cacao Nibs, Cocoa butter, and organic cane sugar. Primavera Farms process their cacao in small batches from seedling to finished bar that recently won Best Cacao from entries across the state at the 2019 Big Island Chocolate Festival.

Big Island Bees Ohia Lehua Honey – Certified organic and produced in Kona, this honey has a delicate, distinct flavor and spreadable texture. Found only in Hawaii, the Lehua blossom produces a white, smoothly crystallized honey. Perfect for sweetening beverages, cooking or simply scooping directly out of the jar. A favorite of tea drinkers because it doesn’t overwhelm the taste of the tea.

Best of Kona Festival 100% Kona Coffee – sourced from a third generation family Kona Coffee Farm in Keauhou Mauka.  In tribute to their grandfather, the Llanes family has kept the tradition of producing 100% Kona Coffee, handpicking only the coffee cherry when it is red. Processed, roasted, and packaged in small batches entirely on the Llanes Estates. Rich in History – Rich in Flavor.

We will continue working together to highlight Kailua Kona and Hawaii Island speciality food products WITH fun items like my new book, my 2021 Kona Calendar and a local made holiday ornament. Getting clever to help my fellow island business owners is part of the Aloha Spirit!
