Case Study-Social Media Promotion for a Retail Mall

I know that if I was looking for ideas to help me develop a plan for a promotion, I would Google it! SO, I am writing this for social media peeps and digital marketing folks to see what we did for The Shops at Mauna Lani last night.

From my prior post about the free concert event last night, I wanted to say that for a three day’s notice, we did three things:

1. We created good will for our team in front of The Shop’s management because we jumped in there with a unique way to lend some good promo juju by utilizing Facebook and Twitter.

2. A couple from South Kona drove over an hour to be there because they read about it on my 365Kona Facebook page and were rewarded for their efforts with a free appetizer at Ruth’s Chris, a signed CD from the band and some 4D Adventure ride tickets. They loved the show, said nice things to the management about the promo and felt great about the reward. Word of mouth advertising for their positive experience is priceless.

3. I took pictures during the event, which are now on the The Shop’s Facebook page, showing what the venue looks like, the band playing to a good crowd and the owner of The Shop’s, Bill Borkin,  with his good friend, Bill Noble, the leader of the band.

I  also greeted fans and friends that came up from Kona who were on their vacation and heard about the event from my Facebook page. During the event, I tweeted out, put a post and picture on my profile, checked in using FourSquare with a picture of the venue and the band.

For future events, we can announce during the show that people in the audience on Twitter will get special prizes if they tweet out before the end of the show, the can get deals from the local shops on FourSquare when they check into those shops and they will appear on The Shops Facebook page if they come up for a special photo opp after the show.

I know it was not a flash mob, but it was a good start to show The Shop’s what could be attained by the effort in publicizing their concerts, and more event promotions in the future, using social media.

Any ideas to share here?

A big thanks to Bill Borkin and the local merchants allowing any and all Tweeters and facebook fans who attended this event and met up with Julie or Bill at this event to enjoy the music, learn more about social media and get some great prizes. Look forward to a future jam session and view a local Hawaiian dance exhibition.

Happy to meet new friends and let more people know about the great concerts we have each month at The Shops at Mauna Lani. Always free and always fun. Look for more opportunities for free things from the shops via twitter and facebook. It might be smart to start checking us out.
