Social Media Promotion-Case Study in Action

Want to see social media promotion in action? I’ve got two days to create a flash mob for a free concert on Friday night!

My good friend, Laura Kinoshita, Kinoshita Communications, has hired me to do some consulting with her company. One of her local clients is in need of a good boost of energy, The Shops at Mauna Lani. Everyone around here knows they have upscale shops and awesome restaurants. One little known fact is that they have free concerts on Fridays.

The upcoming concert for this Friday night is the Bill Noble Trio. Bill has a name for himself around Kona as a pretty good jazz band. To help get the energy ramped up around the concert series, I proposed that we do a prize giveaway to people who stay for a meet and greet with Bill after his performance. It’s a good chance to meet Bill, meet some others that are in the local social media space, and if you see me and say the words, “Bill Noble Facebook” win prizes! In fact, one of the prizes is a free drink at Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse. We will post fan photos to The Shops’ Facebook page and I may even dabble in some video.

(We came up with this idea quickly and hope to expand it as a promo idea for other upcoming concerts, as well)

I called Bill to get him on board and he was thrilled. He said he was too old to really understand Facebook, but was sure thankful for the promo help. I told him to bring a CD and give it away to one of his fans for the promo. I am looking forward to being there on Friday night, as a “social media ambassador”, to see if social media promotion with two days notice works!

The Promo:

I put the announcement on The Shops’s Facebook business page, my “365 Things To Do in Kona” Facebook page, my personal profile page targeted to people who live in Kona/Big Island, and then I sent out tweets on Twitter about the promotion, as well. (and of course, this blog post). I also created a Facebook event posting. One of my blogging  Realtor friends, Lance Owen, also put a post on HIS blog, too. Laura is hitting up her contacts via social media, as well.

I am writing this as a case study in progress. This shows how you can use a variety of tools on social media to get the word out.

Laura, who like my boss at the San Mateo County Assoc. of Realtors, said, “I am not too sure where this is going to go, but I am trusting your instincts on this one”.  I hope to make our efforts shine and you’ll see how it all went after Friday night!
